This book provides a comprehensive overview of current theories relating to Guernsey geology and the regional setting of the island. It also contains what is probably the most extensive and complete bibliography of Guernsey geology yet compiled. The theories favoured and conclusions reached by the authors are illustrated in the course of eleven easy to follow itineraries around the island's well-exposed coastal geology. Where there are alternative interpretations favoured by others, these too are given.

The authors have all carried out extensive post-doctoral research on Guernsey geology and, in some cases, have been supervising the doctoral researches of others for many years. In part they have produced this volume as a gesture of joint gratitude to the island which has proved to be such an interesting and conducive place for their studies.
