This book describes the excavations at Jerbourg Peninsula, the site of Guernsey's largest earthwork, which took place between 1978 and 1981. The first ramparts were built in the Late Neolithic period and these were added to and refurbished during the Bronze Age and Medieval periods. In the Second World War it was the site of Battery Strassburg, built by the occupying German forces. There are specialist reports on the finds, the geology and the history of the site.
Bob Burns was born and educated in London but moved to Guernsey in 1962. In 1980 he was appointed Archaeology Officer at Guernsey Museums & Galleries, a post he held until his retirement in 1996. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and also served on the Coucil of the Society of Museum Archaeologists.
