Face to Face

Portraits from the Permanent Collection

Portraits have so much to tell us about the past. They are filled with signs and symbols, some obvious, some discrete; they reflect how the subject of the portrait wished to be seen by others, or how the artists saw them. This exhibition gives an insight into the lives of the various sitters, as well as examining the development of different types of portraiture, ranging from ‘silhouettes’ to expressive artist’s self-portraits

Beyond Sensation

Contemporary works from the Deutsche Bank's collection, celebrating their 35th anniversary in the Channel Islands

Sensation, the 1997 Royal Academy exhibition of Charles Saatchi’s collection, provides the starting point and title for this much smaller show, which aims both to acknowledge the impact of the most famous contemporary exhibition of the last ten years and to demonstrate that there is life beyond it.

Cambrai 1917

Guernseymen and the Great War

An exhibition to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of Cambrai in the First World War during which 40% of men in the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry were either killed, wounded or listed as missing. It was the end of a generation and the huge losses shocked the island to its core. The exhibition gives an overview of the Great War and focuses on the role of the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry within the conflict.
